Patricia and Dea smiling nicely over the menu!
For 5 years (Aug 2006 through May 2011) Dea taught at Brent International School Manila. We are now both retired and have returned to our home in Colorado. Though this blog is somewhat neglected now, it still serves as a documentation of our time in the Philippines with much information about Biosand filters and family stuff. Please enjoy and comment.

Lunch in Liliw Laguna
We paused during the grueling process of fitting footwear to 'duck' (literally) into a nice little place with a 5' 11" ceiling height for some vittles.
Doing the 'Imelda' thing
Saturday Feb 3rd we went on a shoe buying excursion with Kurt and Patricia (see thier blog under 'Librarian Lamb's Blog' on side bar) to the town of Liliw.
The sign if front of one of the zillion shoe shops.
My goal was to shoot a picture for every pair of shoes Imelda had. But, Alas, I fell short. I did however end up with quite a few more than I posted here. Aren't you glad about that!

Visit to SARAO Jeepney factory.
Michelle's inlaws were visiting on the way to Bali so as to get us 'engaged', she asked if we would be interested in a tour of a Jeepney factory. Well it took us about a second to get our 'yes' verbalized and this post shows some of what we saw at the Philippines oldest, still in business (sort of) Jeepney manufacturer.
I've been collecting pictures of Jeepneys so some day I'll put together a post with those so you can see some of the variety that exists.
Check Wikipedia for some more info on Jeepneys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeepney)
Order yours NOW!
When we got there we were presented with this price list.
The amounts are in Philippine Peso's so divide the amounts by approx. 50 to see just how reasonable one of these baby's really are. And you can have one for your very own.
Mom, think how handy a 22 passenger Jeepney would be to get the kids back and forth to school! And hey Kyle Think about this for a church bus. If I was a kid I'd go to church in one of those.
If you're on a tight budget body and chassis only model might be worth considering. Throw your own engine in and you're all set.
(Click on the picture once and get a better view.)
The upholstery shop.
What makes them things go and blow BLACK smoke?
And under the hood - an ISUZU engine! (This is actually not a shot from a brand new one but the new ones were about the same.)
Hot off the Assembly line!
Here's a couple of views of a brand new one ready to roll. The sign in the window states SOLD along with all the particulars and even initials of presumably 'Who done it'. Can you imagine this fine machine coming at you at night with all those lights on bright - or even dim?
I tell Ya - this is a must have!
I tell Ya - this is a must have!
"Breaker! Breaker!"
" You gotta know when to hold 'em. "
They also had a bunch of older ones around - This a vintage 1955 model. Likely it was made from an actual war surplus Willy's Jeep.
This lineup of 'em, we were told, is for 'recycling' (I think he meant re-furbishing) should the market pickup in the future.
P.S. See Michelle's views of Sarao by visiting her Blog listed on the sidebar above. Can't believe I completely missed those washers.

Saturday morning at the 'Wet Market'.
Saturday morning Jan 27th, pretty early (06:30), neighbors Trudy and Patricia decided to go to the wet market with Dea to pick up some vittles. I (Bill) had been there the week before with Russell who we met there on this fine day to get some pointers particularly on fish selection. As you'll see below there's fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, beef, and pork.
